Here's a Rundown of Everything at The Guerrilla Collective Showcase Day 01 [13/06/2020]
There’s so much to talk about from The Guerrilla Collective’s livestream and this is just Day One! Let’s get right into it.
System Shock | (Linux / PC / PS4 / XOne) - 2020
The show kicks off with a literal shock to the system as we are treated to a trailer for Nightdive Studio’s reimagining of System Shock. Despite using footage from an Alpha build, the game looks impressive, especially when compared to the original 1994 game. The game feels reminiscent of long-running passion projects like The Crowbar Collective’s recently released Black Mesa. Fans of titles like Prey, BioShock, and the original title should keep this one on their radar as it's due for release sometime in 2020. Until then, an alpha demo is currently available on Steam and GOG.
Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four | (PC) - Summer 2020
In the first of many showings for collectible card games (CCGs) comes Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four. However, this is no Hearthstone, as you will find no in-app purchases here. In fact, Cardaclysm appears ambitious in its combination of CCG combat, Action RPG character building, and semi-open-world exploration. The game is set to release on Steam Early Access in Summer 2020.
Uragun | (PC / Consoles) - Q3 2020 / 2021
Do you like mechs? Do you like challenging top-down shooters? Well then, Kool2Play has you covered with Uragun. In what is probably the most on the nose game title of the show, in Uragun… you’re a gun. Well, not quite, you control a mech that has lots of different types of guns: chain guns, laser guns, bomb guns. Lots of guns that you use to decimate throngs of AI opponents that also have guns. I’ll stop saying guns now. Uragan is due to release on PC Early Access in Q3 2020 with a console release set for 2021.
EXO ONE | (PC) - Coming Soon
EXO ONE looks like a simple yet beautiful exploration game. You pilot an alien craft capable of manipulating gravity, shifting its form from a ground-based rolling sphere to an aerodynamic soaring disc. Your journey will take you across countless planets of wildly varying geometry and aesthetics set to the soundtrack of electric guitar. The game gives off strong Flower vibes, only with a decidedly more science fiction aesthetic. It’s coming soon to PC.
Almighty: Kill Your Gods | (Consoles / PC) - Coming Soon
From introspective solo experiences with EXO ONE to outlandish co-operative adventures with Almighty: Kill Your Gods. If you’re thinking that a title like that sounds perfect for a heavy metal album then you’ll love the over-the-top heavy metal aesthetic of the game. Hunt down demons, monsters, and false gods either alone or with friends and bring home your spoils to rebuild your settlement. Almighty: Kill Your Gods is coming soon to PC and consoles.
Röki | (PC / NS) - July 23 / Coming Soon
Röki describes itself as ‘a modern-day tale of courage and adventure’, full of ‘monsters that shouldn’t exist’. Taking place in a fairy tale world with a dark twist, you take on the role of Röki as she embarks on a journey to save her family. Along the way, you will encounter puzzles, riddles, and must confront protagonist Tove’s past. Röki evokes tones similar to Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons in its style with flourishes of Life Is Strange in its narrative voice. What secrets of the past haunt Tove? You can find out July 23 on PC with a Nintendo Switch port ‘coming soon’
Genesis Noir | (PC / Mac / XOne) - TBA
Genesis Noir is the most stunning looking game I’ve seen this year. From its art style, inspired by Italo Calvino’s CosmicComics, film noir, and jazz, to its setting across all of space and time. The game plays like a point and click adventure game but developer Feral Cat Den wants to do away with confusing and convoluted inventory puzzles of old and instead focus on ‘tactile and exploratory’ interactions and puzzles that ‘evoke a vibe or feeling.’ One part creation myth, one part film noir, Genesis Noir will see take you across the cosmos to a jazz soundtrack. No word on a release date for this one but definitely one to watch.
Doors of Insanity | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - TBA
Is Slay the Spire not self-aware enough for you? Are the swords not big enough? The armor not thick enough? You need to be shown the Doors of Insanity. It’s due to release on Steam Early Access sometime soon.
A Juggler’s Tale | (PC) - 2021
A dark side-scrolling puzzle-platformer, A Juggler’s Tale is heavily reminiscent of Playdead’s LIMBO and INSIDE. Its story follows Abby, a circus escapee, as she flees into a war-torn fairytale world. Its unique mechanic appears to centre around a world populated by puppets and their strings that extend toward the heavens. Strings that are pulled by the narrator, puppet master Jack. Creepy. Coming to PC in 2021.
Lake | (Consoles / PC) - 2020
Ever wondered what it would be like to be a delivery person in Oregon during September of 1986? Me neither. That is, until I saw the charming Lake. Here you take on the role of Meredith Weiss, a forty-something year old delivery driver temporarily filling in for her father. Lake seems like a chill simulator-lite in which you will converse with and impact the lives of Providence Oaks’ townsfolk over the course of two eventful weeks.
Urban Trial Tricky | (NS) - Summer 2020
If you’re a master of the Trials or if the latest couple of games in the series have you left you wanting then Urban Trial Tricky for Nintendo Switch may be what you’re looking for. Tricks, flips, and absurd stunts. It’s all here. Grab it Summer 2020.
Boyfriend Dungeon | (NS / PC) - 2020
Some folks love swords. Some folks love men, women, or non-binary people. And some love some combination of all four. Boyfriend Dungeon offers an experience where you can really get to know your swords at the club or over a nice seafood dinner. Don’t worry, you won’t be garnering any strange looks at any of these fine establishments as your swords transform into people with wit as sharp as their pointy end. Your developed relationship will net you level ups and new powers with your swords. Coming 2020 for Nintendo Switch and PC.
Night Call | (NS / XOne) - June 24
Having been on PC for almost a year now, stylish adventure game Night Call is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One June 24. You take on the role of a Parisian cab driver aiding the police to solve crimes under threat of having your own criminal past exposed. You’ll pick up fares and talk with them on their journeys as you piece together their involvement, or lack thereof, in the case you’re working on.
Colt Canyon | (NS / PC / XOne) - Out Now
Colt Canyon offers some good old-fashioned rootin’ tootin’ gunslingin’ cowboy action. If you enjoyed Nidhogg, then you’ll love Colt Canyon’s take on the weird and wild west with its stylish pixel art. Shoot up bandits and other scum alone or with a friend as you try to save your partner in this roguelike. It’s available now and there’s even a demo on Steam.
Slay the Spire | (iOS) - Out Now
Can’t get enough of the amazing gameplay loop of Slay the Spire? Well, now you can play it on your Apple device! Right now! Seriously, if you haven’t already, go and play this. It’s on almost every platform now. Here’s hoping for an Android release in the near future.
Rigid Force Redux | (NS / XOne) - Out Now
Side-scrolling shooter with synthwave soundtrack? Sounds spectacular (alright, enough silly sibilance). Rigid Force Redux offers classic side-scrolling action with a modern presentation. Featuring Arcade and Boss Rush modes, there’s plenty to play and it’ll look good doing it. Available now on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
OUTBUDDIES DX | (NS / PC / XOne) - Out Now | (PS4) - Coming Soon
The show continues with another stylish synthy spectacle. (Sorry, sibilance.) OUTBUDDIES DX is a Metroidvania set deep beneath in the South Atlantic Ocean as you take on the role of Nikolay Bernstein, searching for answers after losing consciousness and finding yourself connected to a Buddy unit. The trailer directly compares itself to Axiom Verge, and rightly so. The game looks to scratch a very similar but decidedly more nautical itch. OUTBUDDIES DX is available now for most major platforms, with a PS4 release due soon.
ScourgeBringer | (NS) - Out Now
After seeing success on other platforms, the rougelite ScourgeBringer is out now on Nintendo Switch! Assist Kyhra in her journey through a world of deadly machines as she seeks to redeem humanity. The art style in this one is a real highlight, ScourgeBringer looks like the child of Celeste and Hyper Light Drifter. Very cool.
Baldur’s Gate III | (PC) - Early Access: August 2020
BALDUR’S GATE III. YES, THIS GAME EARNS CAPS LOCK EXCITEMENT. While there was lots of gorgeous b-roll shown, the real news here is that Baldur’s Gate III is set for Early Access in August 2020… probably. Like all developers, Larian Studios have had to contend with the impact of COVID-19 but are mostly confident that all early access content will be ready in time. Here’s hoping Minsc can make an appearance somehow!
Disco Elysium | (PC) - Out Now
Disco Elysium is a great RPG. What makes it so, and whether it is itself a ‘true’ RPG is largely irrelevant. Anyway, it’s now available on the Epic Games Store.
West of Dead | (PC / XOne) - June 18
It’s sooooo good to hear Rone Pearlman narrating a video game again. West of Dead is a twin-joystick shooter set in Purgatory, as you take on the role of cowboy and literal hothead, William Mason. Blast your way through a procedurally generated Wild West on June 18.
Dwarf Fortress | (PC) - Coming Soon
Dwarf Fortress has been a beloved cult hit for quite some time now. Now, after thirteen years, it’s finally getting a facelift and a Steam release. A settlement management game with extremely deep systems and procedural world generation, Dwarf Fortress should readily appeal to fans of fantasy and strategy.
Valheim | (PC) - Coming Soon
We got our first look at Viking survival game, Valheim. Alone or with your own band of fellow norsemen, you can explore a procedurally generated world in which you must build, craft, and survive against all manner of wildlife and mythological beasts.
Ultrakill | (PC) - Coming Soon
‘MANKIND IS DEAD. BLOOD IS FUEL. HELL IS FULL.’ If the look and feel of classic FPS ala Quake combined with a generous sprinkling of Devil May Cry’s signature ‘SSStyle’ sounds like something you’ve always lacked in your life (haven’t we all?), then check out Ultrakill. There’s a demo available now.
DUSK | (NS) - Halloween 2020
If Ultrakill wasn’t spooky enough for you, DUSK is coming to Nintendo Switch this Halloween. DUSK pits you against cultists, possessed militants, and all manner of dark forces all while emulating the style of classic 90’s FPS games like Blood, Quake, and Half-Life.
Children of Morta | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - Out Now
Starting the 11 Bit Studios segment of the show, rogue-lite Children of Morta has just received a NewGame+ mode. There’s more content on the way, including a new playable character.
Moonlighter | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - Out Now
After the release of its latest DLC, Between Dimensions, a mobile port of Moonlighter is on the way. Developer Digital Sun has said that this port has been ‘rebuilt to feel like a native mobile experience’ so it should feel just as awesome to collect gear and run your shop on the train or the loo.
FrostPunk | (PC / PS4 / XOne) - Out Now
The final DLC for steampunk settlement management game FrostPunk is due for release shortly after Summer of 2020. This DLC, titled On The Edge, will take place after The Great Storm, following the city of New London’s survival, with new challenges and gameplay mechanics promised.
And, just before we bid 11 Bit Studios do widzenia, there’s some news surrounding the FrostPunk board game adaptation with a KickStarter scheduled for Autumn. There’s also two new titles in the works from developers Fool’s Theory and Digital Sun with 11 Bit Publishing.
Fights in Tight Spaces | 2020
2020 continues to be ‘The Year of the Card Game’. Fights in Tight Spaces is a card-based tactical combat game. There’s a lot of promise here, from the slick spy aesthetic that mirrors Superhot’s love of stark contrast and red to the way in which cards come to life through cool combat animations. Grab Fights in Tight Spaces sometime in 2020.
Liberated | (NS) - Out Now | (PC) - July
On its way from Nintendo Switch to PC, is the graphic novel come to life: Liberated. It’s impossible to take your eyes off this game’s Sin City art style. If the quality of the narrative, a noir cyberpunk story of revolution, can match the wonderfully dark art style then this might just be a very special game. Grab it on Nintendo Switch now or on PC in July.
Gestalt: Steam & Cinder | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - 2020
Gestalt: Steam & Cinder offers a narrative-driven adventure game set within a steampunk world. Drawing inspiration from 2D action games from the 16-bit era, take on the role of Aletheia as she traverses the land of Canaan. Meet and talk to a cavalcade of characters, improve your skills and abilities in preparation for high-speed combat, and gaze at the lovingly crafted 16-bit art style. It’ll be available sometime in 2020.
SWIMSANITY! | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - Summer 2020
Alright, this is the best game name of the show. Heavily reminiscent of Castle Crashers but underwater, SWIMSANITY! (God, that name is so good) features four-player co-operative and competitive modes. Special moves and giant bosses await! I don’t want to spoil the feeling of the trailer much more than that. Go watch it. It’s swim-sane! (No, spoiled it. Hopefully, the trailer will redeem this botched joke.) Go play the demo on Steam if you want to try the game out.
No Place for Bravery | (NS / PC) - 2021
You think you’ve seen everything that pixel art has to offer and then you see something like No Place for Bravery. A gorgeous isometric action-RPG, the game follows Thorn as he sets out to unravel the mystery of his daughter’s disappearance in a dangerous and bloody world. The wait will certainly be worth it when No Place for Bravery launches on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021.
Haven | (Consoles / PC) - 2020
It’s easy to forget, sometimes, that not every game needs to feature conflict as its central driving force. Sometimes, all you need is to chill. Haven lets you play alone or with a friend as you glide over alien plains on an unknown world. You can fight if you must but do not forget to love in this feel-good RPG.
METAL: HELLSINGER | (Consoles / PC) - 2021
‘SLAY TO THE BEAT’ IN METAL: HELLSINGER. THIS RHYTHM GAME FIRST PERSON SHOOTER HYBRID, WILL HAVE YOU HEADBANGING AS YOU BANG DEMON’S SKULLS INTO OBLIVION WITH YOUR PERFECTLY TIMED SHOTGUN BLASTS. FEATURING PERFORMANCES FROM METAL VOCALISTS SUCH AS MATT HEAFY, METAL: HELLSINGER IS NOT ONE TO BE MISSED IN 2021.

If you’ve ever wondered what playing Super Mario Bros. on acid would look like, GONNER2 has got the trip for you. A procedurally generated platformer with roguelike elements, the game promises a substantial challenge with all manner of boss battles to boot. It’s due for release in late 2020 for consoles and PC.
Just Die Already | (PC) - Summer 2020
From the developers of Goat Simulator, comes an all-new sandbox for you to go absolutely insane in. Thrown out of your retirement home by boomer-hating young people, you can wreak absolute havoc as an old person. There’s a free demo on Steam right now!
Also, I’m not so sure if Hideo Kojima should unblock the number of the madman that authored that trailer. Excuse me while I wash my eyes.
Crusader Kings III | (PC) - September 1
Grand strategy sequel Crusader Kings III begins the Paradox Insider segment of the show. There’s not a huge amount shown in this gameplay showcase but we do get a glimpse of the new Issues Widget and some further details on how marriage and skill systems have evolved. If all else fails, there’s always fratricide… or regicide, take your pick!
Empire of Sin | (Consoles / PC) - Autumn 2020
From the regal empires of the Middle Ages to the empires of crime-ridden 1920’s Chicago, Empire of Sin looks to be the grand strategy genre’s answer to would-be Mafia bosses. Picking from 1 of 14 crime bosses, each with their own unique abilities, you will be able to build your own empire of sin conducting ‘diplomacy by breath or bullet.’ In addition to their unique abilities, each boss will have their own unique missions in which you’ll be able to recruit over 50 gangsters to assist you in running amok of the law. John Romero’s first full game in years comes out Autumn 2020, capiche?
Prison Architect | (NS / PC / PS4 / XOne) - Out Now
There’s a boatload of new content coming to Prison Architect. The upcoming Island Bound expansion will allow players to build their own Alcatraz, featuring new transportation, delivery, and emergency security systems. This expansion will also usher in a free update, entitled ‘The Rock’, in which prisoners will now have dynamic reputations. Better still, all this will be backwards compatible with existing save games and launch simultaneously on all platforms.
Surviving the Aftermath | (PC / XOne) - Early Access
Post-apocalyptic survival colony builder, Surviving the Aftermath, will no longer be Epic Games Store exclusive come October 22 where it will also be available via Steam Early Access. For existing early access players, Update 8 coming June 18 will add new pollution mechanics to the game.
Hearts of Iron IV | (PC) - Out Now
Congratulations to Hearts of Iron IV on its four year anniversary! In this trailer celebrating the game and its community, developer Paradox has promised that more content is still yet to come in this alternate history WWII grand strategy title.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 | (PC / PS4 / XOne) - 2020
Closing out the show, we get some details on the Collector’s Edition of Bloodlines 2. Featuring a 28cm resin statue of Elif, a steelbook, a 7” vinyl soundtrack, a poster-sized map of Seattle, and (coolest of all) a PDF of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition Core Book, there’s plenty here for fans to sink their teeth into.
Oh, and Damsel from the original Bloodlines game is back! Anarchs for life.
And that was Guerrilla Collective Day One! In the absence of E3, it’s fantastic to have a showcase specific to titles from indie developers. There’s so much high-quality stuff on show here that something is bound to get you excited. Again, this is just day one! We’ll have coverage on the other two days very shortly.
