Review | Life Of Delta - Living The Point And Click Life
Following a little robot named Delta as he travels to save his friend, Life of Delta is a point-and-click puzzle game, released on PS5, Xbox, PC, and Switch in October of 2023, developed by Airo Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment. The game takes place in a post-apocalypse where humans have supposedly been wiped out in “The War” and the world is now ruled by humanoid lizards and the robots that work for them. The game took me about five hours to complete, but will likely be shorter for people better at puzzles than me.
There are two types of puzzles in the game: the classic point-and-click combining objects to make a new object or action that will let you advance, and more distinct minigames that open in a window, like a rhythm game or turning pieces on a circuit board to create a path for power. The game gives you few hints on what needs to be done overall, but when it comes to puzzles you are left on your own to figure out the solution.
While some are more intuitive than others, none rely on moon logic or hidden information. Most importantly, the difficulty feels fair enough that while you may struggle for a few minutes, it just means there’s a greater sense of satisfaction when you figure it out. I would recommend turning the controller sensitivity all the way down if playing on a console, though. Some of the puzzles require you to click on objects in very specific places and a slower cursor can just make precise control easier.
The game looks amazing too. The levels are hand painted and you can tell the work that has gone into them. The art style and level of detail do sometimes make the interactable objects difficult to spot but the developers had the foresight to include a button to highlight them, letting you play the game while appreciating the backdrop.
Life of Delta ended up being a short but sweet game with engaging puzzles and excellent art, and it is definitely worth playing if you enjoy point-and-click games or problem-solving.
