Super GG Radio's Top Beta's Of 2024 | Winter Spectacular 2024

What’s good, internet, I’m Alex Orona, co-host of the NPR of Illinois Podcast, Super GG Radio. Our focus on the show is beta tests, early access, and pre-release demos of indie games and I’m here to share the top games we loved for 2024. Keep an eye out for these titles in the new year and check us out at Super GG Radio for more pre-release content!

Slyders

Developer: Kalo Games

Y'all like Vampire Survivors? What if it looked like a first-person boomer shooter? Slyders is a slick first-person shooter that has you running and gunning all over a chaotic map full of enemies, collecting gems to level up and upgrade until you’re an auto-firing mass of doom.

Strap in for a wild ride.

For fans of: Vampire Survivors and Doom
Released date: 2025

Necrophosis

Developer: Dragonis Ares, Adonis Brosteanu

If you were a fan of 2022’s Scorn, the fleshy body horror adventure game, let me put you on the newest meaty puzzle game. Necrophosis is a classic adventure game like Myst but set in a demonic hellscape with puzzles involving all sorts of body parts and skeletal remains. If you are into collecting eyeballs to unlock gates made of limbs, this is the one for you! Can’t beat that art design.

For fans of: Myst and Scorn
Released date: Coming soon

Knights in Tight Spaces

Developer: Ground Shatter

The surprise sequel to Fights in Tight Spaces excited everyone at Super GG Radio. Mostly because we wanted to see what Ground Shatter would do to iterate further on the premise they have originally developed. Knights in Tight Spaces is similar to what we’ve previously seen but now with classes and a bigger focus on melee combat. I’m so ready for more of that turn-based strategy combat but expanded further into a medieval setting. TAKE MY MONEY!

For fans of: Fights in Tight Spaces
Released date: Coming soon

Detective Dotson

Developer: Masala Games Private Limited

Detective Dotson is such a fascinating premise. Take a 2D platformer but make it a detective thriller, with an open-ended quest system with multiple ways to solve a single case and colour me intrigued. There are so many ways to complete any single story beat and clues to find that I found myself ready to replay the demo a second time to see what I had missed from the first run-through. I rarely replay demos but Detective Dotson was definitely one I jumped back into.

For fans of: Shadows of Doubt and Paradise Killer
Released date: Q1 2025

Rose and Locket

Developer: Whistling Wizard

If you are interested in some action adventure underworld wild west shooting, Rose and Locket has got you set. It’s a 2D platforming shooter that’s one of the best styles I’ve seen in a long time. Every level is coloured in stark contrasts and layered out for multiple planes of gameplay. What does that mean? Well, progressing in the foreground could lead to you playing in the background, moving up a level will sometimes put you lower. It’s a trippy style that is as fun to see as it is to play.

For fans of: Contra and Weird West
Released date: Coming soon

Selaco

Developer: Altered Orbit Studios

Inspired by the boomer shooters of yore, Selaco takes the fast-paced nature of Doom and Wolfenstein but adds an infinite amount of customisation and level varieties. That means that your gameplay can change at the drop of a hat. Using whatever items you can find in the environment, and the 4-6 different points you can customise on each weapon, it’s got infinite replayability and variation. Also it’s got one of the best feeling slides since Titanfall 2

For fans of: Titanfall 2, Doom, and Wolfenstein
Released date: Currently in Early Access

VA Proxy

Developer: PyroLith

As mysterious as it sounds, VA Proxy is a game where you are playing an android trying to break free from the chains of slavery. Exploring an open world populated by beast machines, you never know what you are going to find around every corner. The combat is fast-paced hack and slash with a high emphasis on parries. This one kept me guessing the more I explored.

For fans of: Nier Automata
Released date: Coming Soon

Building Relationships

Developer: Tan Ant Games, Tanat Boozayaangool

A dating sim where you play as a house on an island filled with eligible bachelor pads! The puns write themselves! Rolling your house around the island to find quests or other houses to talk with is such a blast. I can’t wait to start building some relationships… with buildings!

For fans of:  Dream Daddy, and I Love You Colonel Sanders
Released Date: Q1 2025

Worshipers of Cthulu

Developer: Crazy Goat Games

City builders are back baby! Now with extra elder gods thrown in! Worshippers of Cthulu has you building up your city, gathering resources and garnering more followers for the elder gods. With a classic city upgrade system and development tree, but filtered through a Lovecraftian lens, this one had me buying the early access day one.

For fans of: Sim City, City Skylines, and SteamWorld Build
Released Date: Currently in Early Access

Tenebris Somnia

Developer: Andres Borghi, Saibot Studios

I am a notable fan of FMV. It’s such a weird throwback to an age of gaming when we’d try to incorporate live footage into gameplay. That was the cutting edge. So now in the year of our lord 2024, I always keep an eye out for anything still playing in that space, I now present to you, Tenebris Somnia. This is a classic 8-bit point-and-click adventure horror game in the way of Mania Mansion but with FMV horror cutscenes that cut into the gameplay dramatically. It’s actually kind of jarring how quickly the FMV comes in, as well as their production quality. Some actively made me jump. I cannot wait for this game's release.

For fans of: Maniac Mansion, and Resident Evil
Released Date: Coming Soon

White Knuckle

Developer: Dark Machine Games

When we pick the games for our weekly episodes of Super GG Radio, I generally try to find new ideas or twists on tried and true genres. White Knuckle is one that genuinely surprised me with its twist. A two-handed climbing game, with left and right-hand grips on the triggers. We’ve seen that before but what makes this new is the idea that you are in a jail cell in a hellish world of elder god demons and are trying to climb your way out. It’s incredibly difficult as handholds aren’t always telegraphed, but you have to make due. Grab a hammer and pittons to start making your own way, but beware once you start climbing, never look back.

For fans of: The Climb, and Jusant
Released Date: TBA
