Mini Review | Still Wakes The Deep - Mr. Driller's Wildest Adventure Yet
After seeing several videos about it online, I couldn't wait to play Still Wakes The Deep (released in June 2024), a short horror game set off the coast of 1970s Scotland.
We play as Cameron McLeary, also known as ‘Caz’ who has started work as an electrician on a rig in the North Sea named Beira D in order to lay low from the police after assaulting someone back home. However, after a mysterious “drill malfunction” Caz finds himself fighting through environmental hazards and unknown supernatural horrors to escape off the rig.
Due to the game dropping us straight into the story — a while after Caz has started work on the rig — relationships have already been made with the other characters, so he must use his wits and his teamwork while also hoping for the best to make it off the rig alive. The puzzles mainly consisted of the pressing of buttons and although this wasn’t too complex, all is forgiven as the brilliant voice acting and the beautiful visuals this game offers definitely make up for it
Still Wakes The Deep certainly feels Scottish with the copious amount of swearing, the fantastic Scottish voice actors and the famous Scottish slang and insults we all know and love. Something that a Scotsman such as myself just can’t pass up.
With heartbreaking moments and terrifying chase scenes leaving me almost cowering in fear, this game has it all despite only taking about six to seven hours to complete and is a must-play for everyone and best of all, it’s on Xbox Game Pass right now!
